Development of Cotton Fabrics via EVA/SiO2/Al2O3 Nanocomposite Prepared by ?-Irradiation for Waterproof and Fire Retardant Applications

Abstract Development of cotton fabric (CF) properties using nanocomposites via coating method was considerable interest for wide applications. This article aims at developing CF by treatment ethylene–vinyl-acetate (EVA), silicon dioxide (SiO 2 ), aluminum oxide (Al O 3 ) nanoparticles and ?-irradiation widely used in waterproof flame retardant EVA-based nanocomposites, EVA/SiO , EVA/Al 3, /Al were synthesized the highest gel content 81.2–95.3% achieved 30 kGy. The physicochemical characterized FT-IR, XRD, DSC SEM techniques. Usage irradiated EVA technique successfully achieved. provides a simple versatile leading to excellent uniform smooth surface morphology without aggregation. weight gain, mechanical properties, thermal water vapor permeability flame-retardant modified evaluated. Moreover, compared with control CF, resistivity absorptivity hydrophobic property stability gained. samples performed limited oxygen index (LOI) vertical burning tests. LOI percentages CF/EVA/SiO CF/EVA/Al increased 25.3, 27.5, 29.3%, respectively. Untreated ignited burned rapidly after 5 s. Meanwhile, treated hold resistance time prolonged 25 results providing revealed protective capability fabrics from being destroyed burning, support their further use applications fabrics.
